Altcoin
What is an Altcoin?
An altcoin is any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin. The term is a portmanteau of "alternative" and "coin", and refers to alternative digital currencies developed after Bitcoin. Some of the best-known altcoins include Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin. Altcoins differ in their technologies, use cases, and networks.

What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency developed in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin is decentralized and not controlled by governments or banks. Instead, it is managed by the Bitcoin network, a peer-to-peer network similar to the internet. People all over the world can acquire and transfer Bitcoins without any central authority being involved.

What is a Blockchain?
A blockchain is a distributed database that stores transactions securely and transparently. This technology consists of blocks that are chronologically and immutably linked together. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, making manipulation almost impossible. This makes blockchain ideal for recording financial transactions, as it operates without a central authority and offers high security and traceability.

A method of storing cryptocurrency offline to protect it from hacking and other online threats. Hardware wallets are a popular form of cold storage.

What is DeFi?
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) refers to a financial system based on blockchain technology that enables traditional financial services such as lending, trading, and insurance without central intermediaries like banks. By using smart contracts on platforms like Ethereum, DeFi applications offer increased transparency, security, and accessibility.

What does FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) mean?
The fear of missing out on a potentially profitable opportunity, particularly relevant in the fast-paced cryptocurrency industry.

Hash function
What is a hash function?
A cryptographic function that converts an arbitrary amount of data into a fixed size. Hashes are fundamental to the integrity of blockchain transactions.
HODL
What does HODL mean?
A term often used in crypto jargon, which was modified to "Hold on for Dear Life" and means to hold cryptocurrencies long-term instead of selling them during market fluctuations.

ICO (Initial Coin Offering)
What is an ICO (Initial Coin Offering)?
A form of fundraising where new cryptocurrency projects sell tokens to investors to raise capital for development.

Lightning Network
What is a Lightning Network?
A Layer 2 protocol for Bitcoin that enables instant and low-cost transactions by processing them off the main blockchain.

Mining
What is Mining?
The process of adding transactions to a blockchain and ensuring network integrity by solving complex cryptographic problems. Miners are usually rewarded with new units of the respective cryptocurrency.

Plebs
Who or what are plebs?
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency supported by a large, anonymous mass of people. Those who use and support Bitcoin call themselves "plebs" – a reference to the plebians of ancient Rome. These were citizens, artisans, and farmers who were not part of the upper class.
Private Key
What is a Private Key?
A secret key necessary for accessing and managing cryptocurrency accounts. The private key should never be shared or published.
Proof of Stake (PoS)
What is Proof of Stake (PoS)?
A consensus mechanism where users "stake" their cryptocurrencies to get the chance to validate transactions and create new blocks.
Proof of Work (PoW)
What does Proof of Work (PoW) mean?
A consensus mechanism where network users solve complex computational puzzles to add new blocks to the blockchain and validate transactions.
Public Key
What is a Public Key?
A public key, which serves as an address to which cryptocurrencies can be sent. It is derived from the private key.

What is a Seed Phrase?
A list of words that contains information for recovering a crypto wallet. The seed phrase must be kept safe and secret.
Smart contract
What is a Smart Contract?
Self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into lines of code. Smart contracts run on decentralized platforms such as Ethereum.

What is a Token?
A token is a digital unit based on a blockchain that can fulfill various functions, such as representing assets, access rights, or utility within a specific project or network. Tokens can be tradable and often represent access to special services or products within cryptocurrency ecosystems.

Wallet
What is a Wallet?
Digital wallets that store public and private keys and allow users to send and receive cryptocurrencies. Wallets can exist in various forms, including hardware and software wallets.
