When setting up a hardware wallet, you will be asked to write down your Seed Phrase (also called Recovery Phrase or Seedword) – a series of 12 or 24 words according to the BIP-39 standard. With this phrase, you can restore your wallet at any time, even if the device is lost or defective. It is therefore the only key to your coins – no provider and no bank can replace it for you.
Why paper is not enough
A piece of paper in the desk is better than nothing, but not a permanent solution: paper yellows, ink fades, and in case of fire or water damage, the written record is irretrievably lost. To truly secure your Seed Phrase, you need a metal plate instead of paper.

What is a Seed Phrase?
A Seed Phrase is a sequence of 12 or 24 random but valid words according to the BIP-39 standard. It corresponds to the master password of your hardware wallet: Whoever knows it can restore any wallet secured with it – that's why it should never be in a photo, in the cloud or in a password manager, but secured offline and physically.
